And Here's To You Mr. Roberts, Sir

If it weren't for my brilliant cousins, Brian & Brenna Fitzgerald, this tribute song would've never been recorded. Brian played every instrument you hear---tambourine, bass, acoustic & electric guitar. I sang the harmony (which Brenna taught me) & the melody. Thanks, guys!!

A big thanks goes out to Nick & ThePensblog, as well, for helping out with the lyrics yet again.

TPB also searched for every picture in the video, coordinated them with the song & uploaded the finished product onto YouTube.
Sorry you didn’t get any sleep, but the hard work you put into it was really appreciated. ;-)

And last, but not least....thank YOU, Gary Roberts. If you weren't so kick ass, none of us would've taken the time to do any of this.

Shero and Therrien - Mr. Roberts, Sir

And here's to you
Mr. Roberts, sir
Pens’ fans love you more than you will know
Woah, woah, woah
We begged you
“Please Mr. Roberts, sir”
Pittsburgh has a place for you to play
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

We're glad we know
A little bit about you
And you signed
We're psyched you chose to stay
And help us out
Look around you
All of these anticipating eyes
They were curious
Until you said it’s home

And here's to you
Mr. Roberts, sir
Pens’ fans love you more than you will know
Woah, woah, woah
We begged you
“Please Mr. Roberts, sir”
Pittsburgh has a place for you to play
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Go to the front of the net
Where no one ever goes
Put it in top shelf with your other goals
It's a little battle
Mr. Robert’s Neighborhood
Most of all, you had to re-sign
For the Kid

Coo, coo, Ruutu
Mr. Roberts, sir
Pens’ fans love you more than you will know
Woah, woah, woah
We begged you
“Please Mr. Roberts, sir”
Pittsburgh has a place for you to play
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Skating at the Mellon
On a Sunday afternoon
Gonna start the first fight
Yeah, that’s right
Laugh about it
Shout about it
Since you get to choose
Every way you look at it they lose

Where have you gone Mario Lemieux?
The city turns its lonely eyes to you
You, you, you
We’re psyched you stayed Mr. Roberts, sir
Please decide you’ll be with us always
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Mr. Roberts' Neighborhood

ThePensblog photoshops rock!

This latest song was way overdue--especially considering what the topic of conversation has been for the last couple weeks...

...The last few months, actually.

Ever since Gary Roberts officially became a Pittsburgh Penguin, the team and its fans haven't been (and never will be) the same.

Three months and counting #10

Anywho, two huge shoutouts are in order. Both Derek (ThePensblog) and theNick (TheCommentorblog on ThePensblog) lent me their figurative hands for this song. Thanks for your help, guys. (~_~)

To ThePensblog Staff....

If you read ThePensblog.com, then you know about the prank phone calls to The Fedko Fone Zone. (As they put it, it's the off season. So everyone's bored.) However, Fedko was a good sport about the whole thing. The PB staff put it best:

We caught the tail end of his show, and he has now embraced Gary Roberts.
We don't have the tape, but he shows Roberts pictures up and talks about him in glowing terms.
Well played.

Anywho, since I haven't been at all motivated to post anything recently, I thought an older song would be appropriate....

Billy Joel Kwiatkowski – Pensblog Staff

It's 7:30 on a Thursday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Making love to his picture of Malkin

He says, "Son can you write me a memory?
I'm not really sure how it goes,
But it's Sid and Ouellet and Mad Maxime Talbot
And even a few of your Joe's."

(Bridge)
La, la, la, didi, daa
La, la, didi, daa
Daa, dum

(Chorus)
Write us a recap, you're the Pensblog staff
Write us a recap tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for an arena deal
And you've got us feeling alright

Now Chris at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
Derek's quick with a joke
Or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be

And Nick says "I believe this is killing me,"
As the smile ran away from his face
"Well I'm sure that we all could be movie stars
If we could get out of this place."

(Bridge)
Oh, la, la, la, didi, daa
La, la, didi, daa
Daa, dum

Now Adam’s a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talking with Gabey, who's still in the Navy
And probably will be for life

And the puckbunny’s gathering some more chicks
As politicians slowly get owned
Yes, they're making a deal they call progress
So it's better than moving from home

(Chorus)
Write us a recap, you're the Pensblog staff
Write us a recap tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for an arena deal
And you've got us feeling alright

It's a pretty good crowd for a Thursday
And the coaches just give me a smile
'Cause they know that it's me you've been coming to read
To forget about life for a while

And the words that we write are like poetry
And the keyboard smells like a beer
And they sit at their desks wondering what we’ll do next
And say "Guys, what are you doing here?"

(Bridge)
Oh, la, la, la, didi, daa
La, la, didi, daa
Daa, dum

(Chorus)
Write us a recap, you're the Pensblog staff
Write us a recap tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for an arena deal
And you've got us feeling alright

It's Their Destiny To Be The Champions....

Even though the Penguins aren't in the playoffs anymore, it's not like this was their only shot to raise the Stanley Cup above their heads. Just wait 'til next season.....by the way.....the Senators suck!!!

Anyway, The ~D (a commenter on ThePensblog) suggested a song that took me a while to complete, but it finally got finished just before the game on the 19th.

THE PENGUINS - Champions

There's a really huge knot in our guts today
It's the same feeling as the other day
But these Penguins fought for a playoff spot
They’re a Pittsburgh team and they just won't stop

We have sat here before...
Our heads spinning in circles...
Against all of the odds...
But it's their destiny to be the champions...

There's a really huge knot in our guts today
(That's their cup out there)
It's the same feeling as the other day
(That's their cup out there)
But these Penguins fought for a playoff spot
(That's their cup out there)
They’re a Pittsburgh team and they just won't stop
(That's their cup out there)

We have sat here before, behind the tall glass pane
Our heads spinning in circles, getting sick again
Against all of the odds--the story of this reign
But it's their destiny to be the champions...

Even though the score says that it’s three to one
(That's their cup out there)
And a whole lotta people say that they’re all done
(That's their cup out there)
But this team keeps sayin’ “I think I can”
(That's their cup out there)
We’ll be cheerin’ them on until the end
(That's their cup out there)

We have sat here before, behind the tall glass pane
Our heads spinning in circles, getting sick again
Against all of the odds--the story of this reign
But it's their destiny to be the champions...

There's a player who shoots from the point on net
There's another firing pucks at Emery’s legs
There's one who is bleeding from his wounded head
There are Senators choking in the race again

[Guitar Solo]

So this team keeps sayin’ “I think I can”
(That's their cup out there)
We’ll be cheerin’ them on until the end
(That's their cup out there)
There's a really huge knot in our guts today
It's the same feeling as the other day

We have sat here before, behind the tall glass pane
Our heads spinning in circles, getting sick again
Against all of the odds--the story of this reign
But it's their destiny to be the champions................

They'll always be the champions............................

It's Here.....That Sick, Playoff Pain

Okie dokie.....had a little help with this one, so I can't take credit for the whole thing.

A regular at the gamedaychat & reader of ThePensblog, "theNick" helped me out of a sticky situation. (I had a bit of writer's block.)

He not only helped me with the lyrics, but gave me the idea for the song. So...thank you theNick!!! ˜˜ٮ˜˜

Wins and Losses – Sick, Playoff Pain

When we look into your eyes
We can see ya love the game
But Penguins when we cheer you
Don't you know we feel the same...yeah

Nothin' lasts forever
And we both know scores can change
And it's hard for us to handle
Havin’ cold, sick, playoff pain

We've been through this
Such a long, long time
Seems like just yesterday...oh yeah
Players always come and players always go
And no one's really sure who'll be let go today
Traded away

If you could take the time to lay it on the line
We could rest our heads
Just knowin' that you were fine
All fine

So if you wanna love ‘em
Then Pens’ fans don't refrain
Or we'll just end up achin'
Havin’ cold, sick, playoff pain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Ooh, everybody needs some time...on their own
Ooh, don't you know you need some time...all alone

We know it's hard to keep an open heart
When every team is out to harm you
But if you could make a brand new start
Therrien would motivate you...oh, oh, oh

[Guitar Solo]

Sometimes we need some time...on our own
Sometimes we need some time...all alone
Ooh, everybody needs some time...on their own
Ooh, don't you know you need some time...all alone

[Guitar Solo]

And when our tears subside
Only heartache will remain...oh yeah
We know that you can love ‘em
Even when they’re down a game

So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold, sick, playoff pain

[Guitar Solo]

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody (--> sing to here 4x)
You're not the only one
You're not the only one (--> sing to here 3x)

It's Not The End of the World As We Know It

Well, for everyone who was feeling down after the first game against the Senators......here's a song I just finished that will hopefully cheer you up.

P.E.Ns. - It's Not The End Of The World, As We Know It

That's great! It starts with an earthquake
Pens and Sens--their first game
But Therrien is not afraid

Ottawa’s a huge pain. We can feel our stomachs churn
Gay fans like to cheer. Alfredsson ‘ol disappear
Speed it up a notch, skate, grunt, no strength
The ladder starts to clatter with change of glass, down glass
War room in Toronto's overlookin’ seven games
Controversial plays reviewed at a combat site
Pucks were really flyin’ in at Fleury in a hurry
Standin’ on his head

Team by team reporters, baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that back strain. Fine...then
Uh-oh, overflow population, common group
But it'll do to save yourself. Serve yourself
Pens’ fans like to cheer, listen to our hearts beat
Yellin’ with a passion, televisions to the right...right
You symbiotic, alcoholic, job-ber, tool, right? Right
Feelin’ pretty psyched

Not the end of the world, as we know it
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
So, we’ll be fine

Three o'clock T.V. hour
Don't get caught up in the shower
Slash and burn, return
We can feel our stomachs churn
Lock it in, uniforming, mad skating, blood shedding
Every Penguin dominates
Every move incinerates
Light a candle, light a votive, step down, step down
Watch the Sens get crushed, uh-oh
This means no fear, get a beer, Frito Lay, steer clear
The tournament, the tournament, the tournament’s alive
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives, and I decline

Not the end of the world, as we know it
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
So, we’ll be fine...we’ll be fine

Not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
So, we’ll be fine

The other night I dreamt I died---Heatley took me for a ride
Teammates sit in a line, Sid does NOT whine
Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, and Christensen
Playoff party, headache, Jim Beam, boom
“You symbiotic, alcoholic, job...ber, tool
Right? Right"

Not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
So, we’ll be fine

Not the end of the world, as we know it
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
So, we’ll be fine

Not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
It's not the end of the world, as we know it
(It's time we won the Stanley Cup)
So, we’ll be fine (<-- repeat this chorus)

Too Marvelous For Words

Ok commenters, you guys are way too good to me!! (-->Definitely not complaining, though.<--) ‘ٮ’ Since a couple of you DID request this song, just thought you should know what a coincidence it was that you asked. ‘Cause, to tell you the truth, it was the next one to be posted anyway......
A LITTLE BACKGROUND:
Being a “regular” at The Pensblog, I read their February 15th, 2007 post. But then, something unexpected happened. One thing led to another & before you knew it, my first song was born.

Had to update it slightly (since Dominic Moore was traded), but the lyrics are based on Pat Benatar – Love Is A Battlefield.

♫ This Ain't A Dream, It's A Playoff Race ♫

Ok...let me just start off by saying Thank You to you crazy commenters. It's such a good feeling--knowing you guys like my stuff.

A BIG Thank You goes out to Steeltown Mike since he gave me an undeserved plug on his website. (Still can't believe I even have a website...) ‹(•¿•)› You can check him out here, but the site's also listed on the left side of the screen. He talks about everything Pittsburgh sports.....and a few other things. For instance, Karri, Nicole & I are the "Steeltown Angels." “ٮ”
